Is This Trump's Strategy in the Strait of Hormuz? Oil Markets Respond as Iran Conflict Escalates

With growing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, global markets are keeping a close eye  particularly oil traders. Citigroup analysts suggest that Brent crude may remain in the range of $80 to $90 per barrel in the near term, provided the situation stabilizes within the next week or two. However, if the conflict continues, prices may rise even more.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump has issued a number of striking comments regarding the continued military operations against Iran.

"Most of the People We Had in Mind Are Dead"

Addressing the White House prior to a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump stated that attacks led by the United States have significantly weakened Iran's leadership and military capabilities.

Trump stated that the first wave of attackspart of what is known as Operation Epic Furyresulted in the elimination of 49 key individuals. He also proposed that a later attack was aimed at people involved in choosing Iran's new leadership.

"Many of the individuals we were thinking about are no longer with us," Trump stated, noting that another group of potential leaders might also have been eliminated in recent attacks.

"From the way the negotiations were progressing, I believe they were planning to launch an attack first," Trump said.If anything, I may have pushed Israel into taking action.

Why India Might Be Impacted

Energy specialists caution that should Iran try to interfere with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices may rise significantly. For India, one of the world's biggest crude oil importers, extended instability may lead to increased fuel costs, inflationary pressures, and fluctuations in the currency.

For now, markets are wagering that the escalation will be temporary. As several waves of strikes and counterattacks are currently taking place, the next few days may turn out to be critical.
