Airspace Closures After US–Israel Strikes Trigger Travel Chaos
Tensions in the Middle East have gone up fast after the United States and Israel did military strikes on Iran and then Iran struck back really hard. This has made a lot of countries close their airspace, which is causing problems for people who want to travel by air around the world.
Least eight countries have completely closed their airspace to planes that are not military. These countries are Iran, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
* Iran is one of them
* Israel is also one of them
* Iraq has done it too
* Jordan is another one
* Qatar has closed its airspace well
* Bahrain has done the thing
* Kuwait is also not allowing planes
* The United Arab Emirates has closed its airspace too
Syria also closed part of its airspace near the border with Israel for twelve hours.
The United States and Israel did these airstrikes on Iran. The President of the United States Donald Trump said they did it to destroy Irans ability to launch missiles and to make their navy weaker. Before these strikes happened Iran and the United States were talking about Irans program.
Iran was really upset about the strikes. Said they would respond strongly. And they did. They launched strikes against Israel and some countries in the Gulf where the United States has bases, like Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
A senior official from Iran told Al Jazeera that any place or thing that belongs to the United States or Israel in the Middle East can now be targeted and that there are no limits to what they might do.
Because of all this airlines around the world are canceling flights or changing their routes to avoid the Middle East. The Middle East is an important route for planes flying between Europe and Asia especially since it is hard to fly over Russia and Ukraine right now because of the war.
The government of Russia said that Russian airlines are not flying to Iran or Israel anymore. Air India said they will not fly over the Middle East for now. A lot of airlines have also stopped flying including Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, Japan Airlines and many more.
Eric Schouten, who is in charge of advising about aviation security at Dyami said that people who want to travel should be ready for changes that might last a long time and that the situation is hard to predict and is changing really fast.
A journalist from Al Jazeera, Ali Hashem, who is reporting from Doha said that the strikes by the United States and Israel and Irans response have created two conflicts in the region that are overlapping which makes things really unstable.
He warned that this crisis could become much bigger and more complicated, than any conflict we have seen in the Middle East. The Middle East is a region that is already having a lot of problems. This is making things even worse. The Middle East is a place where a lot of countries are connected and what happens in one country can affect others.
